At the Institute of Data Science in Jena, we are working on making the data backbone a reality for all DLR application areas (aviation, space, energy, transportation, security). To this end, we develop and research methods in interdisciplinary work with a focus on applications such as sustainable and circular processes, resilient supply chains, data-driven value chains or robust decision support. The methods developed in this way are applied in cooperation with other DLR institutes and external partners, either as part of joint projects or as part of technology transfer activities.

What to expect

The research and development work of the department Data Acquisition and Mobilisation aims to provide high-quality data for industry and science. This forms the basis for achieving sustainable interdisciplinary value chains and for data-driven decision support in complex systems. The key challenges here are usability, availability and access.

Data forms the basis for data-driven business models and research. The basis for this is the controlled, fair and self-determined exchange of data between data providers and data consumers within the framework of data spaces and data ecosystems. In this context, data is processed almost exclusively by software. The development of reliable, robust and secure software therefore plays an important role, especially when software is a component of critical systems and infrastructures. A software failure or vulnerability to cyber attacks, for example, can have catastrophic consequences and damage both for satellites and for digitised administrative services. It is therefore important to support developers in the realisation of secure, robust and reliable software systems and architectures. The Secure Software Engineering working group systematically researches methods, tools and processes for secure software development. Its aim is to automate all security aspects of the software life cycle as far as possible.

Your tasks

  • implementation of methods and tools for secure software engineering, such as software security lifecycles, threat modelling, risk analysis
  • documentation and communication of processes for developing secure software
  • development of secure software systems and architectures in challenging application domains such as aerospace, aviation and industry

Your profile

  • completed scientific university degree (Master's degree/university diploma) in computer science, mathematics, data science or other degree programmes relevant to the position
  • knowledge of software engineering and software development
  • knowledge of IT security and data protection
  • willingness to travel (national/international)
  • very good written and spoken English or German language skills

We look forward to getting to know you!
